Board Members

Karen Butcher, PhD

Karen Butcher, PhD, serves as board member, Secretary and Treasurer of Oceánica Ballet, Inc. Trained as a biochemist at Purdue University, she has worked with non-profit organizations for 30 years, successfully managing operations and fundraising for local groups providing nutritional, educational, after-school activities and resources for spiritual growth. Karen started her adult training in dance at the Susan Hayward School of Dancing.

Henry Lowman, PhD

Henry Lowman, PhD, serves as board chair and CEO of Oceánica Ballet, Inc. Trained as a biochemist at Johns Hopkins and Purdue University, he is a 30-year veteran of the Bay Area biotech community, having held research management roles at Genentech, CytomX, and Triphase. He has served as an advisor/board member for several organizations, has a lifelong interest in the performing arts, and was nationally recognized as a trumpet player in McDonald’s All-American Band, including a memorable performance with Lionel Hampton at New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Sabina Perlsweig

Sabina Perlsweig serves as a board member for Oceánica Ballet, Inc. She has been a music educator in the Bay Area for over 10 years. During this time, she has worked with a variety of Coastside performing arts organizations, in both creative and administrative capacities. Sabina currently serves as the Education Musical Director for Coastal Repertory Theatre and as the Director of The Coastside Chorale. She is trained in both musical theater and classical voice, as well as piano and jazz/classical saxophone.
